The visual expression in film of an abstract thought or idea is often a difficult process when one seeks to illustrate something for others when it has only been seen within ones own mind. This is especially true if one desires to express the vision of a psychadelic experience.
Two well known visionary artists come to mind when I think of Visionary art and they are Alex Grey and Pablo Amaringo.
Alex is well known for his amazing images of translucent human bodies. His most recent book is Net of Being:
Pablo Amaringo was a shaman ayahuasquero who gained popularity as a painter after Eduardo Luna published his now very popular book The Ayahuasca Visions of Pablo Amaringo:
Both artists capture the spirit of the visions when one ingests psychadelic or entheogenic substances.
In the film The Path of the Sun I wanted to capture this expereince in film for the viewing audience. I am a firm beleiver in collaboration and over the years I have become friends with Shawn Hocking a visionary artist that now lives in Hawaii. Much like myself Shawn worked in the corporate world for a number of years. After working with psychadelics Shawn's life was dramatically changed forever and he has now dedicated his life to producing visionary art.
Shawn's art in my mind captures the experience one sees when entering a hallucinatory state. His images are both geometric and representative of the spirit world. Because of his keen sense of imagary I have asked shawn to provide some of his work for the film. There is a two minute animated segment that describes the visions one sees when ingesting ayahuasca and Shawn's art will be presented for the viewing experience.
